A fairness engine, not a lottery

Every assignment weighs recent load: who carried the nights, who got the weekend, who asked for what this week. The engine evens the load out over time, and a manager can run it again on an unpublished draft until the week reads right.

Coverage gaps, explained

When a slot stays empty, the grid doesn’t shrug. Noviq breaks down why — everyone blocked, at their weekly cap, or on leave — so the conversation moves from "the tool failed" to "we need one more person on Tuesdays".

Swaps and give-aways that keep coverage

People offer a shift to cover or propose a trade. Noviq refuses a claim that clashes with the claimer’s own shifts, and warns the manager when approving would break the rest rule. An approval moves both shifts at once — the week is never half-swapped.

An open shift, offered to the whole team

An open shift goes to everyone who can take it, in the app and in Slack. They claim it in Noviq: the first claim gets it, or the manager picks when the offer needs approval. No screenshot of a spreadsheet in the group chat.
